Counselling – a brief introduction

Counselling – a brief introduction

Sigmund Freud famously compared the mind to an iceberg, suggesting that we are only aware of 10% of our behaviours, with the other 90% of awareness submerged in our minds.

Counselling offers a safe and confidential space in which we can explore the complexities of our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationships, with a view to better understanding and developing greater awareness of these.

Relationship counselling seeks specifically to explore close personal relationships, including the dynamics and interactions between those within the relationship itself. It can therefore be helpful when experiencing difficulties within a partnership or marriage for example.

Clients typically experience a range of benefits from engaging in the counselling process, both in terms of the way they feel within themselves and also in terms of their interactions with others.
